Putting on events in Dunedin in October is always a throw of the dice! Just last week we had snow to 100m one day and 22 degrees another day.
Silverstream Spin is all about the luck of the die and this year we rolled badly and hit the torrential rain option.
Heavy rain warnings obviously kept a few people away but we still had 40 brave souls turn up to make some good stories. The worst weather usually creates the best stories.
Loop 5 was out of the question and loop 1 needed rearranging due to Silver Stream crossings. 4 people rolled a 6 and headed off. After linking arms and crossing the waist deep torrent on Green Gage track they called us up and we decided that 6 and 7 were also too risky.
So, we were now down to 4 loops. There was a lot of extra wheel spinning and a lot of spot prizes handed out!
Terry Davis was the first to finish 3 loops to take home the trophy. He spun and ran a 1, a 4 and a 2. At the end of Terry’s second loop there was 1 runner ahead of him who was on loop 4 so Terry knew he was in with a chance. He rolled a 2 and showed off his Northburn legs by sprinting around the steep loop of Chalkies.
Isaac Tripp was the winner of the “getting your money’s worth” prize. Isaac was the last home (around 7pm) and ran the most. He did have an advantage from being one of the 4 to do loop 6. He ran a 6, a 3 and a 1.
The shortest amount run was Fraser Sneddon. Fraser rolled a 3, then a 1, then another 1 which he rejected but spun a 2. Nice rolling!
21 people DNFed which means fits with our usual 50% DNF rate.
Everyone had a great time.
Only 5 of us stayed over Saturday night. The rain got worse! Isaac dripped away in his hammock in the trees. Andreas and Chris tented in a large pond and left to Fiordland for some sunny weather around 5am.
All the normal cars had no problem getting out of the paddock but we did need to push the Tesla and the BBQ trailer. The campervan got stuck but Dave Mclean pulled it free (thanks Dave!) The coffee truck also got stuck but Barbara Verlinden popped down the road with her tractor and towed it out (thanks Barbara!).
Thanks to Kinisi Running, Tailwind Nutrition, Princes St Butcher, Grid Coffee Roasters, Musashi, Strawberry, Design Windows, Dave and his tow rope. Barbara and her tractor.
PS If you want to watch the adventures of Chris in Fiordland, here’s a tracking link.
